I am using teTeX as bundled with SuSE Linux 10.0. Both 'latex' and
'pdflatex' are symbollic links to the same executable at
/usr/share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux/pdflatex.
The solution to my problem seems to be using the following command line
option:
latex -output-format=dvi
Thanks for the help.
