Because the install is for a public PC lab at our university, I did not use the default root of c:\TeX, but rather c:\applications\TeX. (I wouldn't think this would cause problems.) The main problem is that windvi will not let me save settings. From the menu, I try to change the page size to us letter, but when I exit, an error comes up saying it can't save settings. Does anyone know why this would be and how I can fix it? Also, the File menu item "Print through dvips" is grayed out. This would be a very nice feature, as I really don't know how to print. We have PS printers here, and I'd like to be able to use dvips to go directly to a printer. Another stange thing happened: when I clicked on a file called symbols.tex in the ...doc/latex/ directory, my computer hung up and I had to power off/on. I'd be grateful for any hints. -Harriet -- Harriet B. Not yet done, but anyway, please upgrade to: ftp://ftp.ese-metz.fr/pub/tex/win32-beta/windvi-0.66-pre6.exe You might be able to print using : windvi -p 300 -mfmode deskjet foo.dvi or alike. I have not checked carefully what is packaged. The documentation about the extensions (some are not yet agreed to be put in web2c !) will follow in a few days. Help messages for the tex engines concerned have been enhanced. To use theses packages : 1 - unpack the latest (26/11/1999b) teTeX texmf tree somewhere 2 - unzip most of the zip packages from fptex-0.4alpha1 on top of this. Beware : .pool files are not compatible, so you must overwrite the teTeX stuff. 3 - I assume you know how to configure a basic web2c system. 4 - provided I have not forgotten files, it should work because I use it in this state for a few monthes now. The changes wrt to 0.3 will be documented separately. There is a completely different installation system being working on, more modular than the previous InstallShield based one. More on this soon.
