[Fontinst] Multiple Master Fonts and the Width Axis

I'm going to post the question to the pdftex list, since I don't see that my
problem is specific to fontinst.

I'll report back with my findings in case anyone is interested in MM fonts,
particularly if I gain some knowledge that is applicable to using fontinst
for the task.
