[Fontinst] Interesting problem with "dotless_i"

Why doesn't the line in 8p.mtx translate the irregular name to the 
right one? Do I really need a flexible re-encode, one that is adapted 
to the actual names? Last year you recommended that translation, which 
still works on other glyph names at least in the 8p range. Could 
\reglyphfonts solve the names problem? 
\renameglyph{dotlessi}{dotless_i}?
