Of course.  I include such commands only in font-specific style
files; this one is from my bembo.sty -- and I would not send a
tex source file out to anyone else with \usepackage{bembo}
included.

Other aspects of this dicussion transferred to the tex-fonts
list as per Melissa'a suggestion.
