TUG Membership Information

If you have questions or encounter any problems with membership registration, please contact the TUG office.

How to become a member of TUG

Joining online (recommended): Fill out the secure online form and submit it (the Submit button is at the bottom of the form). You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or via PayPal.

Paper mail: If you prefer to forego electronic submittal, or wish to pay by check or money order, you can alternatively print the PDF membership form (letter, a4) and follow the instructions there for mailing.

Joint membership: The NTG (Dutch) and UKTUG (United Kingdom) TeX user groups have mutual agreements with TUG whereby you can receive a discount for joining both user groups. To do this, please join via the NTG membership page or the UKTUG membership form, and select the option for joint membership. (We welcome making joint membership arrangements with other user groups, contact us if you are interested.)

TUG membership dues

All amounts are in US dollars (approximate currency conversions). Rates are the same in 2004 as for the last several years, except we are expanding the availability of the special reduced rate.

Membership fees less value of benefits received are tax-deductible, at least in the USA. We have calculated the actual value of benefits to be $35 for 2004. For example, $30 of the regular $65 membership dues is tax-deductible in the US. More info.

TUG membership benefits

Members of TUG help to support and promote the use of TeX, Metafont, and related systems worldwide.

All members receive TUGboat, the journal of the TeX Users Group, the TeX Live software distribution (a runnable TeX system), and the CTAN software distribution (containing most of the CTAN archive).

In addition, TUG members vote in TUG elections, and receive discounts on annual meeting fees, store purchases, and TUG-sponsored courses. More info.

Delivery of benefits

All benefits are sent as soon as they are available. In 2004, we expect TeX Live and CTAN to be produced simultaneously, and not to be available until late summer, at best.

Therefore, if you join as a new member in 2004, you need to choose one of the following, depending on whether you want to receive software right away: a) wait for this year's TeX Live; b) receive last year's TeX Live right away; c) for an extra $15, receive both (see "last year's materials" on the membership form to do this). Alternatively, you can purchase the software without becoming a member at all through the TUG store.

In 2004, we expect the CTAN archives to be included with TeX Live, on DVD, as was the case in 2003. When the distribution is available, we'll email all members. If you would like to receive CTAN on CD-ROM as well, you can request this on the membership form, and we'll also send a notice when the time comes.

TUGboat production depends on the availability of material. Presently, TUGboat is over a full year behind; we are working as hard as we can to make up the backlog. If you have any ideas for articles, please contact tugboat@tug.org.

As of 2004, we are sending the last-published copy of TUGboat to all new members, regardless of whether it was published in the last calendar year. Thus, when you join as a new member, you'll at least get one issue right away.

Each year's membership entitles you to the software and TUGboat issues produced for that year (even if it is produced in a later calendar year, as has been the case with TUGboat). You can order older issues of TUGboat and TeX memorabilia through the TUG store.

TUG uses your personal information only to mail you products, publications, notices, and (for voting members) official ballots. Also, if you give explicit agreement, we may incorporate it into a membership directory which will be made available only to TUG members.

TUG neither sells its membership list nor provides it to anyone outside of its own membership.
